Dozens of boxes filled the Wareham Middle School auditorium during the School Committee's Wednesday meeting, where members accepted 30 boxes of school supplies donated from the "Walk for Marie" fundraiser.

Donations included 190 dry erase markers, 300 boxes of tissues, 875 notebooks, 300 hand sanitizers, and three miscellaneous boxes filled with crayons, three-ring binders, paper, folders, erasers, pens, pencils and other items.

"We set out to collect 250 of each of the items and we exceeded most of those," said Megan Greene. "This was just a follow up on what we wanted to raise."

Greene is one of the organizers of "Walk for Marie," an event honoring Greene's mother, Marie Auld, and fundraiser for different causes.

Greene was accompanied by fellow organizers Kristen Murphy, Melissa Leger and Kenneth Metivier while she presented the donations.

"We try to do something every year for Wareham," said Metivier.

Last year, they set out to raise 500 jars of peanut butter for Damien's Food Pantry, but ended up with more than 1,000 jars. The year before that, they raised $600 for Tobey Hospital.

For the coming year, they will accept donations of new and used coats and jackets, beginning in September. Anyone interested in donating may call 508-816-9393, 508-889-5923, 508-291-5022 or 781-336-8917.

The school supplies donated this year will be distributed to all four Wareham schools.

The School Committee also accepted an anonymous donation of $25 to the STAGE Weekend Backpack Food program, which distributes backpacks filled with food to under-privileged students for the weekend.

The Massachusetts Children Relief donated $1,000 to the Wareham High School Best Buddies, a fundraising program that seeks to help individuas with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The committee also accepted a donation from Dino Pimental, who gave four United States flags to each school in the district.
