Attorney Dorene Allen-England of Carver was named Wareham’s first ever human resources director on Tuesday night.

Town Administrator Derek Sullivan asked for confirmation at the Board of Selectmen’s regularly scheduled meeting.

Sullivan said he received more than 60 applications for the position. Eight people were interviewed.

Allen-England’s previous employer was Dane Shulman Associates, a Boston-based law firm. According to the firm’s website, Allen-England passed the state’s bar examination in 1995. In 1991, she earned a bachelor’s degree in law at Suffolk University and a doctorate from the same school in 1995.

Her background in law would be an asset to the town, said Sullivan: “She’s just what we need.”

Allen-England is scheduled to start work on Dec. 5.
