Improvements for students, by students includes pizza and printers
They got the pizza, now they're trying to get the printer.
Two members of the High School Student Advisory Committee were invited to speak in front of the School Committee on Wednesday night.
Committee members picked the brains of Abigail Glidden and Elizabeth Ruiz, elected representatives of the advisory group, about their goals.
The first change they've successfully spearheaded is having Papa Gino's at the school every week instead of every other week.
On an issue that both students admitted was more central to education, the student advisors are now pushing to get a printer that connects to the Chromebooks that were given out to every student earlier this year.
Ruiz and Glidden said committee members strive to improve the school wherever they can by discussing what's going on in the school and the things they can change.
The committee provides a direct contact to Principal Scott Palladino, allowing students to voice what's on their mind, the changes they'd like to see, and what they feel good about.
Asked by School Committee member Geoff Swett what school expense they would recommended the school cut, the girls quietly conferred for a minute and came back with "nothing."
Noting that students at a state gathering had answered the question with "textbooks" because all learning materials should be electronic, Swett asked the Wareham students' opinion. They said they disagreed, saying some of their textbooks are useful and well used.
