Wareham Middle's Builders Club installs new members
Wareham Middle School's Builders Club added several new members to its ranks on Wednesday.
The club is a program at the middle school sponsored by the Office of Beyond School Time in partnership with the Kiwanis Club and the CARE youth empowerment group. According to Kiwanis, Builders Clubs are "student-directed ‘community service’ organizations that operate under school regulations."
The students of Wareham’s Builders Club have kept busy, knitting socks and scarves for the homeless and filling backpacks with a weekend’s worth of breakfasts and dinners for any hungry children in the school district.
The Builders Club is led by Wareham Middle School teacher Janice Barton, who was present for the ceremony.
Also present was Bill Jenkins, the Governor of the New England & Bermuda district of Kiwanis. He, along with high school Kiwanis Club representatives Sarah Gallagher and Danni Cobb, were on hand to swear in the new officers and group members.
Jenkins, Gallagher and Cobb presented the members of the group with certificates and booklets. They also recited the club’s pledge. There was some confusion when Jenkins found he was reciting a different version of the pledge.
“Can we try that again?” one student suggested with a giggle.
Off they went, with no mistakes that time.
