Henry Fernandes, 82

Henry Gomes Fernandes, 82, of Wareham, died at Tobey Hospital Feb. 25, after a long battle with lung and brain cancer. He was the son of Albert and Fanny Fernandes of East Wareham.

He was born in East Wareham and resided in Agawam Village. He was a construction foreman. Mr. Fernandes also served for several years as the American with Disabilities Act compliance officer for the Town of Wareham. He also volunteered at Damien’s Pantry. Mr. Fernandes was a true advocate for the residents of senior housing in Wareham.

Mr. Fernandes is survived by his six children, Brenda Fernandes-Johnson of Roxbury; Coreen Moore of Sagamore; Henry Fernandes of Marietta Georgia; Darcy Fernandes of Buzzards Bay; Brice Fernandes of Wareham and Timothy Fernandes of Onset. He is also survived by his 94 year old sister Mary Paulette of Onset. Mr. Fernandes had 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters; George, Manuel, Adeline, Julio, Gerald, Louise, Charlie, John, and Jessie “Geno” Fernandes.

His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 1 at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, (Route 28), Wareham at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.
