The strong odor of gasoline forced an evacuation at the 7-11 on Cranberry Highway in East Wareham Wednesday morning.

Wareham Health Agent Robert Ethier confirmed the issue and told Board of Health members on Wednesday the store was evacuated and closed. Ethier said the store will remain closed until the store's gas lines can be examined and the leak can be pinpointed and fixed.

The odor was first reported to police around 9:15 a.m.. Responders on scene immediately noticed a strong odor of gas and suspected a leak. Power to the building was cut immediately.

Both Wareham and Onset Fire responded to the call. Wareham Board of Health was also called in, and cleared the scene around 10:30 a.m. Lakeville Department of Environmental Protection arrived around 11 a.m.
