Kenneth D. Beaton, 92
Kenneth D. Beaton, 92, of Dartmouth, died at his home on March 10, 2011. He was the widower of the late Marjorie L. (Matthews) Beaton.
Born in Wareham, the son of the late Peter G. and Clara T. (Gault) Beaton, Kenny lived in Wareham most of his life until moving to Dartmouth in 2006. He graduated from Wareham High School in 1936.
Mr. Beaton lived a full and accomplished life. He and his wife, Marjie, were married for 68 years. He was a family man in the truest sense. As founder of Cranberry Grower’s Service, Inc. and Beaton Cranberry Company, he worked many hours to provide for his family. Kenny was a “cranberry grower” at heart. He loved the cranberry industry. He was part-owner, president, director and manager of several family-owned cranberry businesses. These companies include Piney Wood Cranberry Co., Line Bog Cranberry Co., Godfrey Cranberry Co. and Beaton-LeBaron Cranberry Co. He served as President of the Cape Cod Cranberry Grower’s Association from 1975-1977. He also served on the Ocean Spray Advisory Board.
Throughout Mr. Beaton’s life he was blessed with many friends. As retirement approached, he spent some well-deserved hours playing golf alongside his wife and friends. He was a member and past president of the Little Harbor Country Club. He also served on the Minot Forest Committee.
Mr. Beaton loved his church and his country. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Wareham and a WWII Army Veteran, serving in both the Philippines and the Pacific Theater.
To say that Mr. Beaton was an avid New England sports fan would be an understatement. He especially loved the Boston Red Sox.
Mr. Beaton was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He was loved and respected by all that knew him.
Survivors include 2 sons, Douglas Beaton of East Sandwich and Peter Beaton of Lakeville; his daughter, Christine DiRienzo of Wareham; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Anne Beaton, his daughter-in-law Mary Ellen Beaton, and his siblings, Gilbert Beaton, Elliot Beaton, Eleanor Morey, and Elmira Phinney.
His funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15 in the First Congregational Church, 11 Gibbs Ave., Wareham. Burial will follow in Agawam Cemetery.
