John Santoro, 94
John Santoro, 94, of Wareham, formerly of Brockton peacefully passed on March 25. He was the devoted husband to Viola L. (Feroli) Santoro for over 70 years.
Born in Brockton, he was the son of the late Frank and Catherine (Guerra) Santoro. John was a US Army veteran of World War II, where he was in charge of the motor pool in Germany. Upon his return, he married the love of his life, began employment at Veracka Motors in Brockton, and attended Franklin Institute for his electrician’s license.
He was a member of the Wareham-New Bedford Lodge of Elks, Italian American Veterans, and Little Harbor Golf Course. John enjoyed clamming at Little Harbor Beach, dancing, traveling, and golfing. But mostly, John enjoyed vacations, quality time, and Sunday dinners with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. During many family Disney trips, he could be found leisurely sailing on his favorite ride, It’s a Small World.
John is survived by his wife, Viola; two sons: John P. Santoro and his wife Judy and Robert F. Santoro and his wife Jeannie, all of Wareham. He was Gumpa to Tara King, Leah Conway, Robert Santoro, Kristen Santoro, and Catherine Santoro. He was Great-Gumpa to Aria Conway, Ella Conway, and Colby King. John is also survived by his brother, Frank “Chi-Chi” Santoro; his sister, Matilda Raynard; and his sister, Catherine Vacchino. John was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Ronna Santoro and his brothers, Frank Santoro, Joseph Santoro, Leo Santoro, William Santoro, James Santoro, Albert Santoro, and Anthony Santoro.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham on Thursday, March 30, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High Street, Wareham at noon. Interment will be in Agawam Cemetery, Wareham.
