Ellen Kainu, 94
Ellen Marie (Peltola) Kainu, 94, of Plymouth formerly of Carver, died April 12 in the Life Care Center of Plymouth. She was the widow of the late Urho M. Kainu and the daughter of the late Julius and Olga (Helminen) Peltola.
She was born on April 7, 1923 in Wareham and lived in Middleboro from 1942 to 1985. She then lived in Carver for many years before moving to Plymouth. She graduated from Wareham High School, class of 1941 and from the Brockton Business College.
Mrs. Kainu worked as a secretary for the Town of Middleboro School Department for many years before retiring in 1983.
She attended the former Finnish Zion Congregational Church in West Wareham. She was a member of Finnish American Society of Cape Cod, the Plympton-Carver Triad and the Finn Girls Lunch Group.
Survivors include her son-in-law, Scott J. Dixon and his fiancé, Jodi Colbourn of Plymouth; four grandchildren, Ashley Van Thong and her husband Adrien of Watertown, Andrew Dixon and Melinda Rondeau of Lakeville, Aaron Dixon of Plymouth and Anita Kainu of Assonet; a great grandson, Colton Kainu; a brother, Ralph W. Peltola and his wife Joan of Carver; two sisters, Emily E. Peltola of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and Eila M. Peltola and Lyla Abacherli of Sarasota, Florida; many nephews, nieces and friends. She was the mother of the late Roy A. Kainu and Marie E. Dixon and sister of the late Edwin H. Peltola.
Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery, Wareham.
Visiting hours are from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
