Wareham High student arrested following school shooting threat

May 2, 2017

A Wareham High School student was arrested Monday after allegedly posting “anyone down for a school shooting?” on social media.

Police said Wareham High School administrative staff notified School Resource Officer Karl Baptiste about the post after it was bought to their attention. In the post, a juvenile aged male had taken a picture of himself, added that caption, then posted the image to Snapchat.

The student, who police said was cooperative and denied any intention of being involved in a planned school shooting, was arrested at Wareham High School without any disruption to school activities. The student was then taken to the Wareham Police Department. He was charged with Terroristic Threats, MGL 269-14B, and was transported to Wareham District Court for arraignment.

Police Chief Kevin Walsh praised the swift actions of school administrators and Baptiste following the incident. Police said there is an ongoing investigation into the matter.
