Ruth Packard, 87
Ruth A. Packard, 87, of West Wareham, died Thursday, May 4, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford.
Born in Attleboro, she was the daughter of the late James J. and Ellen (Kelliher) Lee. She was a previous resident of Fall River, East Bridgewater, and Attleboro before moving to West Wareham. Mrs. Packard was a longtime employee for the L.G. Balfour Company in Attleboro, where she worked as supervisor in the packing department.
Mrs. Packard loved animals and adopted many strays over the years. Birds were drawn to her feeders, which she took great care to maintain for them year round. She also had a way with plants, and that special ability to make flowers bloom when no one else could. She was known to adopt and revive plants that others had given up on.
But more than anything, Ruth enjoyed the company of friends and family dropping in to pay a visit and spend some time.
She is survived by her sons; Bruce Packard of Wareham, Brian Packard and his wife Kathleen of Marion, Robert Packard and his wife Theresa of Centerville, and Richard Packard and his companion Gail Morse of New Bedford; eight grandchildren, Lucas, Austin, Sean, Colleen, Brittany, Tony, Endicott, and Zackary; her great granddaughter, Ava; and her nieces, Patricia, Nancy, Anne, and Linda. She was predeceased by her sister, the late Helen Maxwell; her brothers, the late Joseph and Francis Lee, and her granddaughter, the late Ashley Packard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 12, at St. Patrick’s Church, High Street, Wareham at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Visiting hours have been omitted.
