Stanley Pierce, 87

Stanley Crossman Pierce, 87, of Carver, died May 11 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation in Wareham, following a sudden surgery procedure and brief recovery period.

Stan was born and raised in Taunton to Lilian Wood and Edwin Pierce. He was married to the late Barbara (Kern) Pierce from Taunton for 63 years.

Stan was a graduate of Northeastern University in 1952. He served in the Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War.

He worked for IBM for 29 years as a Human Factors Engineer where he lived in West Hurley, New York. He retired in 1990. He moved to Carver in 2009. He took piano lessons, enjoyed photography, he was active on the internet, he was interested in news and Boston sports. He was an avid fan of the UConn women's basketball team. He ate lunch every day at the Wareham 99 Restaurant where he made many friends with the staff who treated him like family.

He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Pierce and her spouse, Eveleen Cunningham of Bourne; two sons, Eric Pierce of Charlotte, North Carolina and Paul Pierce and his spouse Natalia of Frisco, Texas. He also leaves three grandchildren, Eric Pierce, Jr., Kyle Pierce, and Morgan Pierce, five great grandchildren, and many close friends and relatives. He was the brother of the late Robert Pierce.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 19, in the Chapman Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham. Burial with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Visiting hours are from 10:30 a.m.to 11:30 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
