Elizabeth A. Whitney, 68, of Onset, fondly known as Betty by her loved ones and friends, died Thursday, June 15, at her home. She was a loving mother and valued friend.

She was a kind gentle soul with the heart of an angel. She lived in Onset Bay, a place she loved and enjoyed her entire life surrounded by her family and friends.

Born in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Catherine (Craven) Upton. She moved to Wareham in 1979. Elizabeth worked at Tobey Hospital in Wareham for 18 years.

She was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church in Buzzards Bay.

Survivors include her daughters, Jean Whitney of Buzzards Bay, and Jill Whitney Hanson and her husband Dave Hanson of Milton, New Hampshire, and her brothers, Robert Upton of West Bridgewater, and Thomas Upton of Georgia. She was predeceased by her siblings, the late Margaret Travis, Joseph Upton, and her faithful companion Gizmo.

Her funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, (Route 28), Wareham on Wednesday, June 21, at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret’s Church, Buzzards Bay at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m.
