After a car pursuit in Onset, Wareham Police arrested a 19-year-old Falmouth resident July 7 for refusing to stop for police, operating a vehicle without a license, speeding and property damage caused during the chase.

On that morning, the Yarmouth Police alerted the Wareham officers to be on the lookout for unlicensed driver Chad Fernandes, who was operating a red pickup truck. Officials said Fernandes had made threats in Yarmouth and police believed he was headed to Wareham.

At around 6 a.m., Sergeant Dan Henderson noticed the truck on Onset Avenue being driven by a man fitting Fernandes’ description. Henderson attempted to stop the truck, but Fernandes allegedly accelerated, speeding down Onset Avenue and then through side streets. As he drove away, Fernandes damaged a residential fence and lawn, police said.

According to police, the truck arrived at the Wareham Police Department minutes later, where Fernandes was placed under arrest after briefly refusing to leave the truck.

Fernandes was charged with the following offenses: failure to stop for police, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, negligent operation, marked lanes violations, speeding, leaving the scene after causing property damage.
