Organic Wines and You Part Deux!!

Apr 13, 2011

A while back I wrote about organic wines and boy did I get a great response!  Many of you came back and spoke to me about your reactions to traditional wines and how you tried and finally enjoyed wine that you couldn't before.  Excited about the success I had, I told my story to one of our wine salesman, intrigued he offered to bring some samples by on his next visit.

The following week  when he came by the store he brought five different varietals.  He offered no explanation and asked me to sample them first before explaining.  As usual we started with the white wines, sweetest first working our way towards the driest red.  Upon finishing he asked me to critique them and to be honest, none of them fell flat on they're face.  He then asked me if there was a possibility that any of the wines were organic.  Here I hesitated, was it a trick question?  I paused for a little while longer trying to note any subtle differences in the wines.  Before I could even answer he smiled and said they all are.

I was truly impressed.  Each wine was "varietal correct" meaning the characteristics of a traditional wine were on point.  I could place a different label or remove the organic tag off the bottle and there's no way you would know the wine in the bottle was organically grown.  I then asked the make or break question; price?  And the answer; $10.99 & $12.99. SOLD!
