Ida R. Monterio, 100, Boston Post Cane recipient
Ida R. (Roderick) Monterio, 100, of Wareham, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. She was the daughter of the late Henry & Mary (Ruberio) Roderick.
Born in Wareham, Mrs. Monterio attended Wareham schools. During World War II, she worked as a welder at the Hingham Shipyard in support of the war effort. After her work during the war, she then worked as an assembler at Aerovox in New Bedford. Following her work in New Bedford, Mrs. Monterio worked as a dietician’s aide at Barnstable County Hospital in Bourne for 20 years.
Active in the parishes of St. Mary’s and St. Margaret’s, she served as Eucharistic Minister and was awarded the Marian Medal by the Diocese of Fall River. In 1999, she received the Boston Post Cane for being Wareham’s oldest citizen.
She is survived by two sons, Clyde Henry Monterio of Poughkeepsie, NY and Arthur Monterio of Wareham; five grandchildren, Matthew James Silvia, Vanessa Elizabeth Silvia, Clyde Perry, Todd Centeio and Denise Monterio. Also surviving is her brother in-law, William B. McCoy of Onset and many loving nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held on Mon., Apr. 18th at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, Onset Ave., Onset at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.
