Grace E. Carew, 91, WWII Army veteran, hotel operator

WAREHAM - Grace Ethel (Major) Carew, 91, of Wareham, formerly of Mashpee, Hyannis and Cataumet, died Wednesday, January 13, 2010. She was the wife of the late William Marshall Carew. 

Born in Watertown, Mrs. Carew was the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Ethel (Moorehouse) Major.

She was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Women's Army Corps during WWII.

Mrs. Carew attended a two-year secretarial school in Providence, RI and was self employed throughout her life in accounting and secretarial work.   During the 1950's, she and her husband built and operated Carew Motel in Cataumet.

In her leisure, she enjoyed sewing and knitting.

Her survivors include her daughter, Pamela Helen Carew, of Centerville; her two sons, Robert Bruce Carew and Marshall William Carew, both of Wareham, and two grandchildren.

Her funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 584 West Falmouth Hwy., (Rt. 28A), West Falmouth. Mrs. Carew was buried in Cataumet Cemetery, Bourne.
