Emily Peltola, 86

Emily E. Peltola, 86, of Wareham and formerly of Pawtucket, Rhode Island passed away peacefully at the All American Assisted Living on Sept. 11 after a short period of declining health.

Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Julius and Olga Peltola, she grew up in the West Wareham/Middleboro area and graduated from Middleboro High School Class of 1949. After several local jobs in Middleboro, she moved to Washington D.C. and worked for the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps. She was a graduate of the Zion Bible Institute in East Providence, Rhode Island, Class of 1958 and also taught there for a few years after her graduation. She traveled doing children ministry with Libby Gomes and was the treasurer of Zion Gospel Temple. After working 30 years in the offices of Butler Hospital, she retired and worked part-time at the Zion Gospel Temple on Leonard Street in East Providence. She was a communicant of the South Attleboro Assembly of God, South Attleboro and the Zion Gospel Temple.

Emily was one of the first residents to move into the All American Assisted Living in April 2017 when they had their grand opening. She loved everyone there and became fast friends with all the caring staff and residents.

Her family includes her sister, Eila Peltola of Sarasota, Florida, her brother, Ralph Peltola of Carver, her late sister, Ellen Kainu and her late brother, Edwin Peltola. Emily has 10 loving nieces and nephews, Judy Stringer, Carol Pierce, Lori Peltola, Cheryl Farrell, Maurice Parkonen, Melodie Carter, Steve Peltola, Debi Peltola-Salmons and the late Marie Dixon and Roy Kainu. In addition to many family members and friends, she also leaves her longtime friend, Olivia “Libby” Gomes, Riverside, Rhode Island, and the late Janice Fagan.

The family would like to thank her three caretakers in Rhode Island, Elaine, Pat and Dina for their loving care in her home. Also, we include our special thanks to Compassionate Care Hospice of Taunton and Attentive Home Care of Marion.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Her funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. and burial of her cremated remains will be in the Center Cemetery, Wareham.
