Roughly 50 people spent Sept. 20 lending a hand at the Gleason Family YMCA, helping to spruce up the grounds and building with fresh paint, new benches and an assortment of other projects.

The volunteers participated in the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Service Day 2017. This marked the second year the YMCA benfitted from the initiative, which sent 3,200 volunteers to 33 cities and towns across Massachusetts.

In Wareham, volunteers built a new walkway heading to the playground, painted parts of the rock wall climbing room and also did some cleaning.

Debbie Fringuelli, the Y’s executive director, said the volunteers efforts were appreciated.

“They bring so much enthusiasm, skill and dedication,” said Fringuelli. “It’s amazing and we’re so grateful for the support.”
