Onset Bay Association president praised with poem

Onset Bay Association President Kat Jones inspires people to do many things. Now, she can add writing poetry to that list.

On Tuesday, Selectmen recognized Jones for her many community contributions. Those include helping to bring back the 4th of July fireworks and organizing the Onset Summer of Love Concert Series for the past 10 years.

For the occasion, Selectman Judith Whiteside read a poem she wrote, based on T.S. Eliot’s “The Naming Of Cats.”

“Chalk-Full-O-Fun is a terrible pun, but a name for dear Kat in that sidewalk of fun,” read Whiteside, referring to the summer event where sidewalks around the bandshell are transformed into art.

Other lines alluded to her work with Sandcastle Day, the annual Easter egg hunt and more.

“A Kat by any other name is to be congratulated for her outstanding service to the town of Wareham’s summer festivities,” said Whiteside before board members awarded Jones a certificate of appreciation.
