Southcoast VNA receives 2017 Innovation Award from the Massachusetts Home Care Alliance

Nov 3, 2017

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. — The Southcoast VNA was the recipient of the prestigious 2017 Innovations Award from the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts. The award is in recognition of the Southcoast VNA’s development of Camp Angel Wings, a two-day, bereavement camp for children and teens, ages 6 through 15, who are grieving the loss of a loved one

The award was accepted by Sharon Jones, President of the Southcoast VNA, at the Home Care Alliance’s Our Time to Shine event on June 20 at the Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy.

The goal of Camp Angel Wings is to minimize the impact of a loved one’s death by offering children an opportunity to grieve alongside others with similar experiences and needs in a safe and non-judgmental environment. Children are offered a variety of traditional camp activities (swimming, crafts, games) and specialized grief expression activities (communicating grief through a painted mask, grief walk, pet therapy, guided peer discussions and a special memorial service to remember their loved ones).

Southcoast VNA is one of the largest not-for-profit, community-based home health and hospice care agencies serving Southeastern Massachusetts and East Bay Rhode Island. For more than 100 years, Southcoast VNA has provided high quality, comprehensive home health and hospice services, which foster improvement and maintenance of health, prevention of disease and disability and compassionate end-of life care. Services are available 24 hours a day, every day.
