Vikings lose South Division 8 final 8-31 to Millis

A deep South Division 8 playoff run for the Vikings ended with a 31-8 loss to Millis High School on Friday night at Spillane Field. The teams appeared evenly matched in the early going; however, Millis’ size and passing game overpowered Wareham.

“They’ve got some big boys and played physical,” said co-captain and senior Isaac Nascimento. “You have to give them credit. They have a lot of heart.”

For the second consecutive game, Nascimento, who is better known as a star running back, played as quarterback. He said the Millis defensive line was tough to overcome.

“They didn’t leave me with many options,” said Nascimento.

Despite the loss, he said the team has come a long way the past two years after Head Coach Bob Lomp was hired.

“I’m so proud to be captain of this team,” he said. “I’m a happy kid.”

In that time, Lomp has led the team to two consecutive South Coast Conference Small Division titles.

Lomp said he was looking forward to the season’s final game on Thanksgiving against Bourne. The game starts at 10 a.m. on Nov. 23 and will be played at Bourne High School.
