Turning Point, a Wareham nonprofit dedicated to assisting the homeless and near homeless, received a donation on Nov. 28, just in time for winter.

Onset’s Point Independence Yacht Club donated $2,000 raised from its annual Grand Slam Fishing Tournament held in June. This is the fifth year club members have donated to Turning Point.

Pastor David Shaw, chair of Turning Point’s board of directors, said the donation is dedicated solely for client services, not administrative costs.

“These funds will allow people to pay their rent, utility bills and stay in their homes,” said Shaw.

Chuck Hurley, of the Point Independence Yacht Club, said members chose Turning Point as a way to help out people in the community.

“We wanted to do something to give back,” said Hurley.

Brian Kashner, Turning Point’s newly hired coordinator, said the organization was grateful for the donation.

“We want to express our gratitude to the Point Independence Yacht Club for the generous donation,” said Kashner. “This will truly help our mission of meeting the needs of the homeless and the near homeless.”
