Evelyn L. (Joy) Waggoner, 94, of North Tonawanda, New York and Onset, Massachusetts, passed away Sept. 24 following a long illness.

Mrs. Waggoner was born June 22, 1923 in Niagara Falls, New York, the daughter of the late Victor C. and E. Helen (Wilcox) Joy. She attended local schools and was formerly employed by Jenss Department Store in Niagara Falls until her retirement.

She was the wife of the late William J. Waggoner who died in 2003, and mother of the late William B. Waggoner. She was also pre-deceased by grandsons Andrew Miller and Jeffery Miller and her sister and brother-in law Eleanor and Robert Manning. She is survived by her children, Gary (Elayne) Waggoner of Beavercreek, Ohio, Nancy Miller of Onset, John (Gretchen) Waggoner of Lewiston, New York, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ (formerly The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) which played a very large part in her life. She helped at church in any capacity needed. She was a former Sunday School teacher and member of the church choir for many years.

Evelyn enjoyed collecting dolls, music, genealogy, reading, travel and spending time at her summer home in Onset.

She was a true artist when it came to creating handmade items. Her favorite was to create beautiful counted cross stitch pieces which she gave to family and friends, who will cherish them for generations to come.

She was the most gentle, loving soul who always looked for and found the best in everyone and taught love and kindness without conditions. Her family is so grateful to have been part of this beautiful woman’s life. She will be missed by all.

A Memorial Service was held at the Community of Christ Church, Lewiston, New York on Sept. 30. Burial was at Riverdale Cemetery in Lewiston.
