Donald Rogers, 83

Donald J. Rogers, passed away at the age of 83 on Dec. 24. A lifelong resident of Wareham, he was the son of the late William M. and Mary (Viera) Rogers. In 1959, Donald married the love of his life, Diane (Hatch). Together they raised a family and built a trucking business, something that has turned into a family legacy with his son Craig and grandsons following in his footsteps.

Donald served in the Navy during the Korean War. He took great pride in being a Navy Seabee. He was a volunteer firefighter in his younger years and he served on the Wareham Conservation Commission.

He will be dearly missed for many reasons, but especially for his smile and the stories he loved to share about growing up in Wareham or his many trucking adventures.

Donald was predeceased by his wife Diane in 2002. He leaves behind his daughter, Cheryl (Rogers) Costeira and her husband Tony; his son, Craig Rogers and his wife Debbie; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Spencer Rogers, Alex Costeira and his wife Miranda; his two great-grandchildren, Lexi and AJ. In addition to his immediate family, Donald leaves behind many nieces, nephews and countless friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Frank “Milt” Rogers, John “Jack” Rogers and William “Billy” Rogers and his sister, Genevieve Phillips.

His funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30 in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham. Burial will be in Agawam Cemetery, Wareham.

Visiting hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
