Wareham girls basketball team to raise funds for family in need on Jan. 12

Jan 2, 2018

The Wareham girls basketball team will once again team up with the Dick Melloni Youth foundation to raise funds for a Wareham family dealing with a serious medical issue.

Raffles, auctions and more will be held on Friday, Jan. 12 to raise money for the Semiao family. The event will be held during the junior varsity and varsity games at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Wareham High School.

All proceeds will go to the Semiao family to help Kerryn Semiao’s long road to recovery. Kerryn, who has a child in 8th grade and another in 5th grade, took ill on Nov. 28. The Dick Melloni Youth foundation has donated a check to cover the costs associated with this game, so the school will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the fundraiser.

Last year, the team raised funds for then 3-year-old Madelyn Alexander who was diagnosed with leukemia in April 2016. She was admitted to Boston Children's Hospital and was there for a month before beginning outpatient treatment at the Jimmy Fund Clinic at Dana Farber.
