Communications supervisor thanked for 27 years of service in Wareham Police Department

Peter Murphy was awarded a certificate of appreciation at the Selectmen meeting on Jan. 9 and thanked for his service as a communications supervisor and E-911 administrator for the Wareham Police Department and the Town of Wareham.

Murphy, who recently retired, was unable to receive the award in person, but Wareham Police Chief Kevin Walsh, EMS Director David Evans and former Wareham Police Chief Thomas Joyce accepted it on his behalf.

Selectman Judith Whiteside acknowledged Murphy’s many duties: maintaining records for district court, the FBI and others, which relied on his accuracy. He maintained an accurate list of streets in town and is “one of the few people who knows the reason behind road names,” Whiteside said.

Murphy worked under three chiefs of police during his time in the department.

“He was an integral part of the team who kept up the workings of this busiest department,” Whiteside said.

Murphy was also thanked for his involvement in community events in addition to his 27 years of service on the Wareham Police Department.

Murphy wrote an open thank-you letter at the end of December, thanking those who shaped his time in the department. Click here to read that letter.
