May 24, 2011
A 67-year-old Mattapoisett man was killed when the vehicle he was driving crashed into the woods in the median strip of Route 195 eastbound near Route 28 in Wareham just after 1 p.m. Tuesday.
An investigation by State Trooper Kevin Brito indicated that Robert A. Alves was driving his 2004 Ford Taurus in the right travel lane when the vehicle drifted to the left and entered the center median. The car continued eastbound for several hundred feet before striking several trees and rolling over onto its left side, according to police. Alves was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The high-speed lane of the highway was shut down for roughly an hour while State Police conducted the investigation and cleared the scene.
