As of Jan. 18, seven more people have taken out nomination papers for a variety of seats in the upcoming April 3 town election, bringing the total to 15 potential candidates.

After pulling nomination papers, those interested in seeking office must secure the signatures of 50 registered voters. The last day to pick up nomination papers in the Town Clerk’s office is Feb. 9. The deadline to return papers is Feb. 13 at 5 p.m.

For the board of Selectmen’s race, there are two seats available.

So far, incumbent Alan Slavin has pulled papers for the seat he currently holds.

Planning Board member Marc Bianco and Mary Bruce, a member of the Wareham Garden Club, have pulled papers for the second seat, left vacant by the abrupt resignation of Judy Whiteside on Jan. 9 for an unspecified personal reason. Because Whiteside resigned after one year, the new board member will have two years to serve before the next election. Faith Berry has also pulled papers for Whiteside's former seat.

In the race for School Committee, Rebekah Pratt, Rebecca Kennen, Geoff Swett and Michael Flaherty have pulled papers to fill two, three-year terms. Swett is currently on the committee and Flaherty is a former committee member. Flaherty did not seek reelection in 2015, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family at the time.

There are two seats on the Wareham Housing Authority up for election, one five-year term and one, one-year seat. The one-year seat will fill a vacancy left by Rudy Santos, who passed away last year. In addition to current Chair Bob Powilatis, Kevin Costa and Jean Connaughton have taken out papers for the Wareham Housing Authority.

Other potential candidates that have pulled papers include incumbent Deputy Moderator Joseph Ashley, incumbent Sewer Commissioner Jim Giberti, Steven Curry for assessor and Don Jepson for the Wareham Sewer Commission. Jepson pulled papers for the non sewer user seat on the commission.
