Two people have been arrested after allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting a woman inside a Wareham motel, then leaving her unconscious inside a car parked in Plymouth on Jan. 8.

Police said 39-year-old Michael Botelho of Plymouth and 30-year-old Stephania Cyr of Hull were arrested. Both are charged with aggravated rape, drugging a person for sexual intercourse and selling liquor to a person under 21.

The investigation began after the victim, who is not being identified, was found unresponsive inside a car at Morton Park on Jan. 8 by Plymouth Police. She was then taken to a hospital near Boston where she reported the assault.

Police said the victim arranged to meet Botelho and Cyr online. The three met in Morton Park and then went to the Rosewood Motel in Wareham together. According to police, “events transpired in the motel room, including drinking and drug use that affected her control of the situation.”

While unconscious, the victim was taken back to Plymouth and left inside her car while it was freezing outside.

The investigation led to warrants for Botelho and Cyr. Botelho was arrested on Jan. 19 at the food court in Kingston Collection, an upscale mall in Kingston. Cyr was arrested on Jan. 18 in Hull. Both are in custody after being arraigned in Wareham District Court.

Wareham Police Department detectives, the Plymouth Police Department Street Crimes Unit, Massachusetts State Police VFAS Unit and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department all investigated the matter.
