Wareham/Carver Vikings beat Dighton-Rehoboth 6-2
The Wareham/Carver Vikings hockey team got back in the win column on Jan. 17 with a 6-2 win over Dighton Rehoboth/Seekonk. The Vikings jumped on the board early, when eighth grader Jackson Sylvester found a loose puck in front of the net, and tapped it by the goalie. Soon after, Sylvester, took a feed from Quirino doCanto, and beat the goalie, who just couldn’t move post to post fast enough to make the save. Jared Robbins got an assist on the play. Later in the first period, with a 2-0 lead, and killing a penalty, doCanto stole the puck, skated in and beat the goalie, making it 3-0.
Dighton-Rehoboth added a goal late in the first period, which made it 3-1 at the end of one period. Early in the second period, the Vikings, added another goal, when Sylvester returned the favor to doCanto, bouncing a pass off the boards to doCanto, who skated by the defenseman, and beat the goalie, for his second goal of the night. Coleby Paling also grabbed an assist on the play. Of course, Sylvester wouldn’t be outdone, getting the next goal for the Vikings, capping his best night as a Viking, with a hat trick.
Noah Reardon and doCanto got the assists on the play. Although Sylvester got the hat trick on the night, it was fellow eighth grader Olivia Sontag who stole the show, getting her first varsity goal, winning a battle in front of the net and stuffing the puck. Connor Tait grabbed an assist on the play as well. Dighton-Rehoboth added a goal in the third period, making the final score 6-2.
Ethan Allegrini got the win in net, making 23 saves on the night. The Vikings next game will be Jan. 27 at noon, at Tabor Academy, against the first place Old Rochester Regional Bulldogs.
