Gleason Family YMCA promotes fitness in the new year

Jan 25, 2010

Falling behind on your New Year's resolution to get in shape? The Gleason Family YMCA can help you start the year off right.

There is still time to take advantage of the YMCA's joining fee special for the new year, which goes through January 31. The fee is $20.10 for adults and families, compared to regular rates of $60.00 and up.

The YMCA launched "Y Total Health" this month to help new and existing members get on the right track to fitness. The free four-week class focuses on cardiovascular training, strength training, flexibility, and nutrition. Small classes of no more than eight people help members get one-on-one attention.

"You're getting the personal training aspect of [exercising] without the cost," Gleason Family YMCA marketing and development director Jo-Ann Watson said.

Watson said "Y Total Health" helps members meet, make friends, and encourage each other.

"Sometimes when people are by themselves they don't stay committed but if they have someone they're accountable to, it helps," Watson said.

The class is available on various days and times to accommodate busy schedules.

"Y Total Health" is one of many programs offered at the Gleason Family YMCA. For more information and a full list of programs, call 508-295-9622 or visit www.ymcasouthcoast.org.
