Firetruck fundraiser for Onset-Wareham fireworks ignites fun

Jun 4, 2011

People piled into a 1932 Maxim Pumper firetruck and helped fill a pair of fire boots with approximately $350 Saturday to help fund the annual Onset-Wareham fireworks display.

The antique truck ignited the curiosity of onlookers at Walmart in East Wareham. Kids even got a chance to hop onboard and sit behind the wheel.

The firetruck is owned by Wareham firefighter Howard Smith, husband of Town Moderator Claire Smith, who is on the fireworks committee helping to raise funds for the display scheduled for July 2 with a July 9 rain date.

The show is funded through donations from individuals, businesses, and community organizations. The Onset Bay Association, Wareham Village Association, and Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce have joined to together once again this year to fundraise for the fireworks.

A fundraiser will also be held at Mezza Luna Restaurant, located at 253 Main Street in Buzzards Bay, on June 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event will feature complimentary hors d'oeuvres, a 50/50 raffles, and an auction. A donation of $10 is suggested.

If you would like to donate to the fireworks display via mail, checks can be made out to “Town of Wareham Fireworks Fund” and mailed to P.O. Box 799, Onset, MA 02558.
