Wareham Lady Vikings knocked out of playoffs in first round
The Lady Vikings were eliminated from the Division 3 South basketball tournament following a 54-44 loss to Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School Wednesday night.
The No. 10 seed Lady Vikings (12-9) fell to the No. 7 seed GNB Voc-Tech (13-6) in New Bedford.
The Lady Bears led 31-24 at the half, but went on an 11-5 run and started the fourth quarter with the score 44-31.
Lady Vikings Head Coach Dave Brogioli said the loss came down to turnovers and missed shot opportunities, including many open 3-pointers that didn’t fall.
“I think it came down to missing shots in the first half,” Brogioli said.
Entering the playoffs seemed like a long shot earlier in the season after a string of defeats, said Brogioli. He noted the team’s work ethic never faded, however, propelling them to the postseason.
“We’re a little inconsistent at times, but they always play hard. I never question their effort,” he said.
