Wareham Police searching for driver that struck, injured Onset firefighter

An on-duty Onset firefighter was seriously injured in a hit-and-run Friday evening while responding to a storm-related call in East Wareham, according to Wareham Police.

The firefighter, who is not being identified pending notification of family, was responding to an incident near the intersection of Onset Avenue and Cranberry Highway. At approximately 7 p.m., a driver struck the firefighter and then fled the scene. The firefighter was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of “serious injuries,” police said.

Wareham and State Police are investigating. Wareham Police noted that because the investigation is ongoing “information is very limited at this time.”
