Consider informing police of mental illness to save lives from gun violence

Mar 12, 2018

To the Editor:

If every parent of a relative with mental illness were to inform the local police department with proper paperwork so that the police would be aware not to hand out a permit for a gun to such a person, it would help with saving so may lives.

I reported a relative and because I did, that person did not get a gun permit. It was the best thing I ever did. I was cursed at, etc., but several months later I received a thank-you.

I just did what I thought was the best thing for everyone concerned. Actually I just called the police station.
