School Superintendent's three-year contract renewed
Wareham Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Barry Rabinovitch's contact has been renewed for three years at a base salary of $147,000 per year, School Committee chair Kenneth Fontes announced during the committee's Wednesday, June 8 meeting.
Rabinovitch's salary is the same as he is currently making, Fontes said, noting that the superintendent did not ask for a raise in base salary. The contract goes into effect on August 1.
The superintendent will undergo a School Committee performance evaluation in July and could be eligible for up to a $5,000 raise at that time, Fontes noted. The superintendent is awarded a raise based on a point system.
Under his current contract, if Rabinovitch is scored from 0 to 64 points on the annual evaluation, he is given a $1,000 raise. This “tier” is eliminated in his newly-approved contract. If he is scored from 65 to 79, he will be awarded $3,000, while he will receive $4,000 if scored 80 to 89 points, and $5,000 if scored from 90 to 100 points.
“We're very happy to have the superintendent. There are a lot of good things going on … and we're fortunate that we've come to an agreement,” Fontes said. “Hopefully in the next three years we'll continue to see improvement” in the district.
The School Committee voted unanimously at its May 25 meeting to renew Rabinovitch's contract based on negotiations which took place during executive session. The details of the contract did not become public record until it was signed on June 7.
