'Read Across America' comes to Minot Forest Elementary

Mar 23, 2018

Wareham students celebrated Read Across America, a national literacy event, at Minot Forest Elementary School on Thursday.

Donna Noonan, Wareham Public Schools administrator for Literacy and Early Childhood Coordination, said the event was an opportunity for families to foster a love of reading in young children.

“This is the first time in many years we’ve had a Family Literacy Night,” said Noonan. “This is a fun way to promote literacy and help raise awareness to get families reading with their 3 and 4 year olds.”

Usually held near March 2, in honor of Dr. Suess’s birthday, the event was rescheduled due to a storm.

The wait appeared to be worth it as families packed the school’s auditorium, coloring, playing and getting active at 10 stations staffed by educators and employees from area preschools.
