Diane Mitchell, 85

Diane P. Mitchell, 85, of West Wareham, died March 22 at her home after a long illness.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Howard J. and Marie M. (Houston) Devine of Jamaica Plain. Diane earned her bachelor’s degree from Boston State College in 1963, and her master’s from Boston College. She taught English for the Boston Public School system. A previous resident of Brockton, she moved to West Wareham in 1968, the same year she married Thomas Mitchell, who predeceased her after 40 years of marriage.

Diane was an active parishioner at St. Patrick’s Church in Wareham, serving as Eucharistic Minister and lector. She was a volunteer with the Wareham Council on Aging, driving Wareham’s senior citizens to doctor’s appointments.

She is survived by her three beloved nephews: Mark Victory and his wife Judy of Derry, New Hampshire and their children, Michael and Danielle; Bernard Victory and his wife Carolyn of Papillion, Nebraska and their son Paul; and David Victory of Nashua, New Hampshire. She is also survived by her dear friend, Jan Landers, of Onset.

Her funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Route 28), Wareham on Wednesday, March 28 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, High St., Wareham at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Massahusetts National Cemetery at a later date. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
