Apr 26, 2018

A Buzzards Bay man is facing animal cruelty charges after a Rottweiler was put down this winter when Wareham Department of Natural Resources officials found it with a badly infected jaw.

Robert Pina, 57, of 89 Cohasset Road, Buzzards Bay will be arraigned on the charges on May 1 in Wareham District Court.

Officers responded to a reported stray dog found near the Wareham/Carver town line on Jan. 29. Officials found the Rottweiler being held by good Samaritans, but suffering from a large, bleeding mass on its jaw. The dog, named Benz, also had discharge coming from both eyes, appeared to be underweight and had an infected leg injury.

Benz was taken by Wareham Department of Natural Resources to the Cape Cod Veterinary Clinic. There he was euthanized due to his poor health.

The MSPCA Law Enforcement Department and the Wareham Department of Natural Resources investigated.
