Safe Summer kicks off at the Onset Pier
The weather may have been less than summery, but Wareham’s safety staff was out in full force for the Safe Summer 2011 kick off event on Friday at the Onset Pier.
Life guards, police bike officers, ATV Officers, Wareham Harbor Patrol officers, and EMS personnel were all on-hand to meet with citizens and discuss their on-going efforts to keep the town safe throughout the summer months. State Representative Marc Pacheco was also in attendance.
“This is all about the citizens,” said EMS Director David Evans.
Salerno's Function Hall donated a water-friendly wheelchair during the event so all beach goers can enjoy Wareham’s coast.
The town has added dozens of lifeguards, police bike officers, and other part-time staff to help monitor the streets.
“They are an extra set of eyes and ears,” said Town Administrator Mark Andrews. “It makes a huge difference.”
Participants enjoyed free food, music, and a chance to win raffle prizes.
