Conservation Commission to review plans for massive fuel tank proposed in Onset

May 1, 2018

The Wareham Conservation Commission on Wednesday will review plans for a proposed 18,000-gallon above ground fuel tank at the Brewer Onset Bay Marina, located at 3 Green St.

According to plans on file with the planning department, plans call for constructing a 32-foot long tank that will be 10.5 feet in diameter on the property. The new tank will replace three, 6,000-gallon underground tanks already at the site.

“The purpose of this project is to improve environmental safety by upgrading the existing marine fueling system with fully double-walled and electronically monitored tanks and piping,” according to the plans.

The new tank will include three 6,000-gallon compartments for different fuel types. Plans show a 6-foot tall, solid vinyl fence will be installed to screen the tank. However, some of the tank will be visible due to its height.

If approved, construction is expected to start soon and last six weeks.

The Conservation Commission meets at 7 p.m. in the Multi-Service Center, located at 48 Marion Road.
