Legion Post baseball club going strong with three-game winning streak
The Wareham Legion Post #220 Baseball Club is going into week four of the season on a three-game winning streak.
The boys started out their third week with a win against Whitman on Sunday, June 19 with a score of 8-4.
Billy Peterson (Wareham) reached base in all three plate appearances by going 2-for-2 with a walk, one run scored, and an RBI. Catcher Max Gay (Plymouth South) enjoyed a two-hit afternoon and connected on a bases loaded RBI during the fifth inning. On the mound, Sean Conway (Wareham) went six-plus innings, allowing eight hits, two earned runs, and one strikeout.
On Monday, June 20 Post beat Hawkeye with a score of 7-6.
Jake Mele (Plymouth South) pitched a strong seven innings as he scattered only four hits in earning his first American Legion win, handing Hawkeye their first loss of the summer season. Hadley Stone (Taft) collected his first American Legion hit and went 1-for-1 with a run scored and a sacrifice. Michael Sullivan (Wareham/Massasoit Community College) went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, while Sean Griffith (Bourne) went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Offensively, Zach Angelo (Tabor) produced a 2-for-3 night with a double and an RBI.
Post kept the streak alive against Middleboro on Friday, June 24 defeating them 3-1.
Behind a solid pitching performance by Ian Searles (Wareham), Post #220 has won three in a row for the first time this season. Searles went seven complete innings allowing just four hits, one unearned run, and 10 strike-outs. Sean Conway (Wareham) went 2-for-4 with a double and one run scored. Sean Griffith (Bourne) and Billy Peterson (Wareham) each enjoyed a two-hit night. Max Gay (Plymouth South) went 1-for-3 with a double and Shea Doonan (Tabor) added a base hit on the night.
