Carver Selectman announces run for 2nd Plymouth District seat

Jun 21, 2018

A four-term Carver Selectman will again seek the state representative 2nd Plymouth District seat, covering Wareham, Carver and South Middleborough. Sarah Hewins ran last year against incumbent Susan Williams Gifford (R-Wareham).

“This campaign is about the residents of this district—they deserve to have a voice,” said Hewins. “They deserve a representative who will carry their concerns to the State House.”

Hewins said she would again focus on issues that affect all three towns—traffic, education and the opioid epidemic.

Hewins is a founder and former unpaid executive director of the Young People’s Alliance of Carver, Inc. (YPAC), a non-profit after-school youth program with a goal of drug abuse prevention. Hewins said she thinks YPAC’s success points a way forward to dealing with the opioid epidemic.

Hewins is a 26-year resident of Carver where she has run a small business with her husband Steve Dewhurst for 25 years. Their son David is a graduate student in mathematics. Hewins was on the Planning Board for 10 years, was conservation agent for 15 years, and has chaired or served on many town and regional boards and committees. She earned a Ph.D. from Princeton University.
