Eleanor M. (Howland) Smith, 96, of Onset, died July 7 at Tobey Hospital. She was the wife of the late Herbert D. Smith and the daughter of the late Alvah G. and Jennie M. (Owen) Howland.

She was born in New Bedford and lived in Onset since 1947.

She graduated from Fairhaven High School.

Mrs. Smith worked as a bookkeeper for Onset Bay Marina for many years before retiring.

She enjoyed knitting, sewing, cooking and reading.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Mirabito and her husband Richard of Wareham and Joanne S. Young of Marion; a brother, James Howland of Tucson, Arizona; three granddaughters, Kristina Kelsch of Bourne, Lauren Kelsch of Wareham and Jaclyn Young of Onset; three great-granddaughters, Adrianna, Anya, and Lillian Kelsch. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Peter Young.

Visiting hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Agawam Cemetery.
