Friends of the Wareham Free Library help bring books to 200 children

Two hundred kids in Wareham are now receiving free and age appropriate books delivered directly to their homes thanks to a program sponsored by the Friends of the Wareham Free Library.

The books come from the Imagination Library, which is funded in part by the Dolly Parton Foundation. The Friends of the Wareham Free Library held a fundraiser for the Imagination Library last fall, asking donors for $25 per child which covers the cost of books for up to one year.

The Friends said people were exceptionally generous when they learned how valuable their donations would be.

"We have received feedback from parents who tell us their children are thrilled when their books arrive in the mail each month," said Friends President Priscilla Porter.

The Friends said they will continue with the Imagination Library this fall, asking donors once again to sponsor one or more children for the following year.

Registration for the Imagination Library is open year-round. Children must be residents of Wareham ages birth to four and a half to register. Books will be mailed to children until their fifth birthday.

Forms are available at both the Main and Spinney Branch Libraries and at all Friends events and book sales.
