Wareham YMCA celebrates staff and members with sundaes

Jul 27, 2018

The Gleason Family YMCA served up sundaes on Friday, July 27, for staff and member appreciation day, complete with all the fixings.

The event took the place of the YMCA's usual potluck lunch, which had seen a slight decline with the weather.

"It's been hot out," said Special Event Coordinator Cathy Longfield. "We knew we had to do something to switch it up."

Perry's Last Stand donated ice cream to the event and the Oxford Creamery provided the YMCA with everything from hot fudge to sprinkles.

The idea for the ice cream social came from Senior Program Director Mel Dyer as way to beat the heat.

"It's something I've wanted to do for awhile," Dyer said. "What New Englander doesn't love ice cream?"

Staff and member appreciation day at the YMCA falls on the last Friday of every month according to Longfield.

"We want our staff to know how grateful we are for the things they do every day," Longfield said. "And our members are what make it all worth it."
