Wareham Boys and Girls Club drums up summer concert

Aug 9, 2018

Singers and drummers from the Wareham Boys & Girls Club will hit the Onset Bandshell on Tuesday, Aug. 14, for their third annual summer concert.

Previously a part of the Wareham Boys & Girls Kukoo Gala, this will be the first year that the kids have a stage all to themselves thanks to the Onset Bay Association.

"They're really excited," said Linda Calise of the Friends of Onset's Budding Artists. "I can't wait to see them preform."

The Friends oversee the Boys & Girl's Club Summer of Fun Music Program, which teaches kids how to sing and play as a part of a drum circle from July to August.

The kids, ages 6 to 13, meet and learn alongside professional musicians who volunteer their time through the Friends.

"Some kids are totally gifted," Calise said. "Others are just learning about music for the first time. What's important is that they're all having a lot of fun."

According to Calise, the concert will feature a drum circle demonstration alongside several songs chosen by the kids.

The show will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and admission to the event is free.
