Wareham receives grant for downtown village streetscape project

Wareham has received $1 million in federal Community Development Block Grants to continue the downtown village streetscape project, support housing rehabilitations, and assist with various social services.

“I am so pleased that the state and federal legislative delegations were able to make this funding available for Wareham,” said State Senator Marc Pacheco. “Jobs will be created as a direct result of these funds as Wareham continues to upgrade its downtown area, provide crucial social services and improve housing facilities.”

Wareham received a grant in 2008 for the design phase of the downtown streetscape project and this new funding will assist with the first of four phases of the project. The social services funding will be appropriated to assist with senior transportation, after school programs, youth and adult tutoring and domestic violence prevention.
