Gayle Sybil Smith, 58, of Wareham, formerly of Duxbury, Quincy and Scituate, passed away Friday, July 8, at Forestview Nursing Home in Wareham after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.

She was born in Quincy and is the daughter of Sybil Smith-Hallsworth of Weymouth and the late Charles Smith.

Gayle worked for the Musicland Group for many years and was a very talented artist and writer. Music was her religion and the beach was her center of gravity.

Gayle was the cherished mother of Lauren Smith of Plymouth, beloved grandmother of Dylan Connell, and stepmother of Jillian Griffin of Quincy. She was the treasured sister of Gregg Smith of Utah, Donna MacLean of Plymouth, Kent Smith and Brad Smith of Georgia, and Steven Smith of Florida. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
